Friends. Relatives. Countrymen.

Sometimes in life, when you just have to sit down and wait for moments to happen, it's always nice to take pictures along the way.  Here are some snaps taken in the attempt to document the "idle" parts in life, which are, at some degree, make up most of the journey.

Mayan Prediction: True After All

27 minutes to go... and yes my internet connection sucked that night.
I'm typing knowing that a few minutes from now could be the end of the world.  I don't know if it's wise to spend these few remaining moments writing, instead of doing the more logical option which is to start contacting my love ones and express my gratitude that I have them in my life, you know, just in case the sky would start spitting out meteors.

Painting Faces

I notice, when I'm in the mood to paint, I'm usually emotional.  Either happy, sad, whatever.  So it's probably safe to say that I found another medium to vent out my feelings.

And it's great, you know.

It's therapeutic.

Mama's Girl.

Yes, and I'm not ashamed of it.  There are just many things in life that she could do well that I can't.  Cooking is one, and memorizing is another one too.  I regress when I'm with my mom.  And since I'm naturally inclined to that when she's around, I have thought of moving out so I could finally figure out how to live on my own.  Exciting, true.  Challenging, I might say.  But definitely, something I'm looking forward to.

Just how I am dependent on my mom?

How will you know if that person is the ONE?

Every time I get to talk to anyone who is seemingly happily married, I pounce at the chance of asking this:

How did you know that she's/he's the one?

Maybe it's my hopeless romantic side talking or my desperate-I'm-kinda-old-and-I'm-still-single woman anxiety kicking, but I just want to learn, and maybe, hopefully, I could at least detect if Mr. Right is somewhat nearby.

So I usually earnestly listen to their answer, in the hopes that I could figure out a formula to this finding-your-mate mystery.  But sure enough, I know that there won't be anything like that.  That it all boils down to decisions.  Decisions base on what logic and your heart tells you.  Yep! That just stripped off the magic and romance out of that.

I think I ask to just hear his love story, how they both met each other, and that's almost always something I would love to hear.  I just like the feeling I get from listening.  It's addictive.

It's weird because I slowly realize that as I grow older, I trust lesser.  I became more guarded.  That's probably what I learned in previous years, and it's just sad, holding it back, stopping yourself from giving into the romance, the love story.

But you know, I still believe in that magical thing they called love.  I guess when it happens, it will happen.  And things will go tumbling down into a whirlwind of fantasy and enchantment.  It's just that in real life, it wouldn't be as smooth that you could say they would live happily ever after.  It does take work.

A labor of love, perhaps.

Birthday Bonanza

It didn't really go as I originally planned because someone, with that I meant my papa, sent me more budget so I was able to play it out exactly how I would want it to be - meaningful, intimate, with lots of food, and a bit grand - those are the elements I would have love to see in a party, and I'm pretty thankful I was able to do it with mine.  Well not really perfectly there, but almost.  Nevertheless, it was great considering I only started planning it 3 days before the day itself.  I did it my way and was really satisfied with everything.

Here are the pics from my party!!!

The Tale of Two Letters

A few days ago, I received a couple of letters: one that lifted me up, and one that brought me down.  It's strange how life presents you with 2 opposing news.  one that would overwhelm me with pride and another with shame.  I then succumb to a momentary grief since the news was somewhat shocking for me.  The letter sent to me by my adopted son couldn't somehow overshadow the fear I had that time.

So the challenge is - how can I spend my birthday in the most fun and creative way possible without blowing up my wallet?

Won Bin Choke Slammed Rain!

Just recently my college friend, Rai, and I started a ritual.  We have decided to meet up in a coffee shop every Wednesday either 11am or 1pm.  And we would have one of the most interesting conversations about life, success, careers, love life and we would just be laughing most of the time.

Back in college I would see her as a quiet, religious, driven and intelligent lady.  And that's just the Rai I know.  After some few hours of conversation with her, it struck me that she wasn't that goody-goody ol' girl I assumed she was.  Although I knew that she joined a sorority and had been drinking much in college, still my impression of her was just so strong that I was shocked to hear once again of her somewhat darker days in college.  There are just some people who could get away with things.  She has a way of talking to me that even if her words were direct and venomous, she still made it sound like a usual banal comment about the weather. And it really bothered me how she did that, so I had to ask her one time.

I'm Feeling It!

You are a star! You're so amazingly gorgeous guys can't help themselves but stare at you. You, you hot sexy vixen you!    [rawwwrrr]

That moment.

A moment when you're feeling so good about yourself that you just can't help feeling so Angelina Jolie or so Brad Pitt; that people would pave way and make space as you walk along the mall or street; that moment when you notice that whenever people are looking at you, you would think... "Hmmm yeah, I'm hot. I know that." and you would think of giving them a wink or blow them a kiss, but you would find the idea silly so you would quickly brush off that idea and just walk your runway and let everyone stare at you and drool some more at the glory of your beauty!

You know you had this moment!

Me and my friend Ivy just got in the shopping mall, when...

Me: "You know I need to schedule a pictorial and get pictures of me with my closest ever Brazilian look, because by next year I'll dye my hair jet black and get a fairer complexion!  Out with the Brazilian, In with the Egyptian!"

Ivy: "Nooo wayy, I'm Egyptian, like.. like Turkish look." [her eyes got bigger now, bigger than it already was, hehe]

Me: "Nooo..." [gasping in disbelief]

Ivy:  "Like... like... Mila Kunis!"

Me:  "I'm Mila Kunis!!!" [completely shocked now]

So Highly Favored

You know the feeling that everything is falling into place.

Everything I've wanted, people in my life pave way for my plans to be fulfilled.  I am quite impressed God, and I'm pretty sure that You would amaze me more.  Now I know what Joel Osteen was talking about when he said "the blessings of God will overrun you" and I must say, it's oh so true!

My friend knows a friend of his who could give me a tattoo for free.

And my pop is offering me some help with regards to my newly chosen career.

Well what do you know!  I'm pretty sure a lot of people would be opening doors for me too.

Keep them coming! :)

I so love to be surprised. HAHAHA

And I know my friend, next year would be a year of miracles for me!

Watching a lot of Joel Osteen videos have really fired me up on moving towards my destiny.  And so he is obviously a blessing for me.

So my dear readers, I highly recommend you watching his vids.

It will do you good. I promise! :)

Few days ago before leaving for my Bangkok trip, I was lucky enough to reunite with my college friends.  Two of which I haven't seen for 5 long years.  And as expected, when I met them, it was as if that 5 year gap has closed down in an instant.

There was so much stories to share, and so much questions to ask.

Time may have mold us, but our friendship remains the same.

It was the night when my ex was probably in flight to UK for his masteral education and be with his new found gf.   I, however, was on a soul-searching trip in Bangkok.  Tired after a long day of bathing with the elephants, my friend Ivy and I tried to amuse ourselves with the night life in Bangkok. Hmmm, the night when life's energy is more prominent.  The lights, the sounds, the noise.  It's infectious.  It gets you to do something bad. No wonder a lot of crimes happen at night.

When I Spent a Night in a Motel with my Girlfriend.

After getting booted out of my sister's apartment, I needed to find me and my friend some place to stay for the night.  We were trying to save as much money as we can for the trip to Bangkok and Cambodia which was then, scheduled tomorrow.  Eight days in our yet most expensive trip to date, two independent girls with limited budget, with no exact place to stay for one awkward night-
we had to settle in a motel.

You From Crazy!

For a number of times, local Thai people would recognize where we are from.  And we couldn't really figure out how?  While walking, some of them would say, "you Filipino" out of the blue.   My immediate reaction? Well I would feel baffled and surprised about it, and eventually, feel proud for being recognized as one.   I would respond by smiling, or nodding, and or say "yes!"

After a number of times, I couldn't resist it anymore.  I had to ask them how they know it.  They usually say they know someone who is a Filipino.  I didn't ask further.  Maybe it's the eyes, or the nose.  Either way, we were impressed.

And this constant verification of race went on even when we reached Cambodia.  This time, it's those little ones who were eager to ask.  Surprisingly, a lot of people there can speak proper English.  And in many times, these adorable kids would sell us postcards, pashminas and the likes, in the most subtle and aggressive ways, it's mind boggling how they were able to mix those 2 contrasting elements together.

But it works.

My friend and I are women in our late 20's.   At this point we are at a crossroads on following the path that was set for us and following the one that's in our hearts.  So this trip was just more of a sight-seeing venture.  It was more of a spiritual journey on rediscovering oneself.  And getting ourselves back whole.

Indochina Trip: Everything I Wanted and More

Going to the trip, I was hoping to get what I've been planning to get.  But never have I expected to be coming home more than I've ever been wanting to have.

Needless to say, my cup now is overflowing.

Funny how a week long trip could change someone for the better.  I can say I had.  I feel so good I want to just jump. hahaha

And for that lemme do my own twisted version of the Gangnam dance for you.

My apologies for my lousy dance.  Our tour around Angkor Wat was coming to an end, and I was just happy but so tired yet I wanted to do something crazy.

And so that was what happened.

Words cannot explain how ecstatic I am.  So I'll just leave it with this.

Salesladies are Crazy.

Being in the city makes malls the only place to go to find happiness.  Well of course that's not true, but at some point it is.

I don't know with you, but I go straight to the department store.  Why? well one, they sell cheaper items.   Oh well, actually that's the only reason I could think of right now.  With the trip fast approaching, I really don't have any budget to splurge.

Besides, department store salesladies are less aggressive than the ones in stores.  But anyways all sales ladies are alike.  They could get pretty pushy.  I especially don't like it when they start to follow you like they become your "shadow".

Adventure turned to Misadventure

They say that adventures should be found in really small, trivial things. Doesn't have to cost you money, doesn't need for you to hop in the plane, train, boat, and what not.  No.  Adventure could be in the form of eating food you haven't tasted for quite some time, taking on a different route going to work; banal stuff like that is already an adventure, and the only reason that we don't notice it is that we have already a definition of what an "adventure" is.

Today was a not so usual day.  Although I spent most of it sleeping, I spiced it up by taking it up to a notch by doing a so called "grocery musical show" late in the afternoon.  No, I didn't sing like the one you see at Glee.  All of which were all happening in my world.  You know the time that you've got your headset on and tuned yourself in a really cool and moving music.  And next thing you know your world had become more "glee-like".

Sticky face. Cloudy weather.  No air.  Manila hasn't gone much more humid than this.  As much as I would want to have my ideas and thoughts flowing on one topic, I couldn't.  A lot of buggers flying in my mind and out of it.  Like for example, the fact that I haven't been eating much for a few days now.  People in the apartment, have decided to put a stop on the not-so-distant-possibility of bulging bellies, cheeks... everything.  Although my sister had already gone past that mark, she knew she needed to put a tab on the bulging trend and get herself to be in her normal size again.

Yesterday was the Day I Wanted to Get Lost. But thought of Eating Instead.

With only a pocket full of coins and handful of nerves, I decided that it wasn't a wise time for me to do this.  But it was definitely time for me to eat!  So yesterday, I visited Razon, a popular Pampanga food chain, to try their famous dishes.  It had made good in business, thus finding its way into Manila food scene and in different parts of Luzon and probably Visayas.  First time I went past it, I figured hey I saw that on tv before.  I should try it before I'll go home to Davao.

And so I did.

I went in to try their most note-worthy dishes: pancit luglog and halo halo.   I took a photo of these with my phone but I had some trouble uploading it.  That's not going to stop me from posting this.

The sun was shining brightly as I stepped out of the plane.  What an awesome day.  It's funny how not long ago, the news reporter announced that it was raining here in Manila for days on end.  Nonstop.  There was flooding in most parts of the city.  Water rose up to the knee, at some places, it had gone up to the second floor of several houses.  A familiar sight.  We've seen worse though.  But yes, there was a flood and,   casualties too.  But today, Mr. sun decided to show up on my day of arrival. So Where am I Heading Next?

I have exactly 7 days left before I'll leave for Manila.  Had a feeling that I had to do a lot of things, but here I am, finding myself doing what I want to do which is blogging, hahaha.  I spoiled myself that way. My bag is partially packed and I've got my docs ready.  I wonder if I have missed out on anything.

It would be definitely an adventure itself living again in Manila.  Although deep down, I knew I don't wish to live there permanently but since it's different then it should be fun.  Oh that phrase pops out time and again.  Hmm it's slowly starting to be my motto in life.  Well that will do for now.

To give you an update, I'll be flying to Manila in less than a week now to work for my father.  Save money for my Indochina trip.  I'm very determined to make this trip very memorable.   Will not give much details on this but will let you know after the trip which is by the end of September. Hopefully everything will turn out just as I want it to be.  Although I haven't really gone much on the nitty-gritty of things, I have a general plan.  Thinking of it now, just makes me grin, on the outside and in the innermost part of my soul! hahaha  Cheesy much?!

Clue?

Ok.

Isla Reta Resort: Life on a Crazy Saturday!

Last Saturday I went to the beach to accomplish #43 on my dream list.  What is that? I can't tell you, but yeah, it's a bit crazy for some people, but I did it! :)  Wooohoooo!

Although #43 doesn't exactly need a lot of practice and preparation,  I just needed to be in a certain emotional crazy state to be able to do that.  And I did it! Mind you, alcohol-free baby! :)

And no it's not in any way sexual if you guys might be assuming to be so. Puh-leaazz! @_@

Anyways they said that the road leading to your dreams is tough and bumpy, well I could say that it really was.  Up from the time that we got in the boat, I've been seesawed incessantly.  There happened to be a storm up north but wasn't really aware that it would affect us down here.  The land environment had rendered it unnoticeable.  Needless to say, it's a different story on water.

First thing in the morning, I knew our next destination, Kaibigan Falls, would be a bit far.  It would be a 1-hour drive from where we've been staying, and with distances like that, I just couldn't help but question.   Geeez, for a waterfall?  I was afraid that we'll just check out the area, take some pictures and head on.  Thinking about that made me want to jump this part of the itinerary.  But I forgot about the fun part: take a plunge in it.

Day 3: Pagudpod - Blasting All Them Waves!

Truth be told, I haven't heard about this Pagudpod beach before.   And after doing some research, I've read a good number of reviews about this.  This could something.  I might as well throw this in the itinerary.

After having to travel 2hours away from Laoag City, passing through a river (yes seriously), and really really narrow streets, I've come to think that this beach should be good that people would have to go through this trouble to get there.  This should be something! Heck, after traveling that far.  It should be!

The Beach

When we reached our destination, I was already exhausted.  I rested a bit and then went straight to the shore to validate the hype.

All I saw?

There were huge corals sticking out of the shore.  My heart sank.  There should be more to this, than this.  So I had to walk along the beach to check how it was on the other side hoping to find that spot worthy of all those praises.  Yet, I found none.  All I saw were pebbles they call sand.  Not the fine ones, not the white ones found in Isla Reta, which was only an hour away from my place!  Yaaayyy!  By then I was thinking if all the trouble was worth it.  And slowly I became more and more convince that it wasn't.  Then it had gotten darker,  which kinda reflects how I felt that time.

Then morning came.  I hit the beach and saw the waves came crashing against the huge sturdy corals.  What better way to take this opportunity by taking lots of cool shots.

Doesn't my mother look like a wizard of some sort?

Inspired by karate kid.

This shot looks like I was meditating.  Wait 'til you magnify that face.  I was cringing!

I don't know where she got that pose from.  Uhmmm superman?  Either way she looks silly. :P
After taking those awesome shots.

I smiled.

Hey, it was worth it after all. :)

Because I Can Lip Sync

I had to seriously contemplate whether to post this one or not... because... I just looked too silly here.  But yeah whatever.  It's all for entertainment baby! :)

It was 7-ish  in the morning and was waiting for our tour guide to pick us up.  And then... I got bored.
This is the result of my happiness.  It didn't rain during our Ilocos trip.  Great weather ahead.  Yes!

This one below is the product of my boredom.

And you know this video screams AWKWARD!

Day 3: Ilocos Trip - Juan Luna Museum

Right outside the museum you would see printed works of this famous artist, filling in 2 walls with ... Oh what the heck.  Look at the picture! :P

Day 1: Ilocos Trip - Casa Teofila

In choosing our accommodation, my top concern was the price.  Knowing that we would just be needing a place to sleep over, it wasn't really necessary to get something fancy.  Anything that's comfortable and cheap is perfect for us.   So I found Casa Teofila.

Watercolor Painting: So I was Using the Wrong Paper

I feel lazy today.  I knew I needed to write several posts for the trip I had, but couldn't seem to get myself to even start a single sentence, much more finish a post, related to the trip that is.

Anyways, I've been trying out watercolor painting for a week now.  Immediately after deciding to go serious on this, I bought several brushes, a plastic palette, a sketching and a water color pad.  Right at the time when I blot my damped brush on the new water color pad, I knew that the reason why I had great difficulty on the first try was because of the kind of paper I was working on.  Silly me, I used a regular sketching paper for painting. Result? The colors won't spread and blend as much as I wanted to.  With this legit paper, it made things easier.

Day 2: Ilocos Trip: Vigan - Hidden Garden

Wonder why it's called Hidden Garden? Well it took us a long time to reach this place.  I think we had passed through small subdivisions, farms and 30minutes has passed, and no sign of Hidden Garden.

Believe me, after having gone through all that, you'll realize why.  And you'll get pissed why it's Hidden and why now when you're hungry!

But you know, getting there was worth it.

The place gives you a Bali-feel to it.  Thanks to tribal decors nipa huts and, wood furnitures.

First thing we did?

We ordered.

Empanada (Php40)

Poque Poque (Php 130)
Bagnet (Php 225)
Dinengdeng (Php150)

We were really happy we chose Hidden Garden.  I mean, we were eating famous traditional Ilocano dishes whilst in a "Bali-inspired" garden.  Happy much! :)
